How do we use your information?

By using UniSA Global Alumni Connect, you have access to a secure online platform which can be used exclusively by alumni of the University of South Australia and our antecedent institutions.  

You have complete control over the personal information you choose to enter within UniSA Global Alumni Connect which is intended to facilitate personal and professional networking amongst graduates of the University of South Australia.  If you add personal information to your Personal Profile or Mentor Profile you are consenting to the disclosure of this information to other users of UniSA Global Alumni Connect and to the University of South Australia.

In addition, you may choose to provide your personal information only to the University of South Australia using the section called My University Record.  Any information you enter here will be shared only with the University of South Australia and will be used for the purposes of maintaining alumni relations.  

If you do not consent to your personal information being used or disclosed for this purpose, please email the Advancement Services Team at alumni@unisa.edu.au. In that event, the University will refrain from using your personal information.


Will my personal information be stored on the Cloud?

Personal information collected via UniSA Global Alumni Connect will be stored on the Cloud (that is, the internet). To assist the University to store and access your personal information on the Cloud, the University may store your personal information with, or allow it to be accessed by, overseas third parties who provide:

  1. software and maintenance services for the Cloud;
  2. infrastructure/hardware used to access the Cloud; and
  3. software application services to the University.

As those third parties are situated, and store content, offshore (including in jurisdictions such as the United States), your personal information may be transmitted, disclosed, stored or accessed to/from overseas jurisdictions.

If you proceed to allow your personal information to be collected via UniSA Global Alumni Connect, you are consenting to the transmission, disclosure, storage and access of your personal information by third parties in overseas jurisdictions. In that respect, Australian Privacy Principle 8 which ordinarily obliges the University to take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients of your information do not breach the Australian Privacy Principles (except Principle 1) will not apply.

Please note that if any of those overseas recipients handle your personal information in a manner which is inconsistent, or does not comply, with the Australian Privacy Principles:

  1. to the maximum extent permitted by law, the University will not be accountable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) for any resulting loss or damage that you may suffer;
  2. to the maximum extent permitted by law, you will not be able to seek redress against the University under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth);
  3. the overseas recipient may not be subject to any privacy obligations at all, or to any principles similar to the Australian Privacy Principles;
  4. you may not be able to seek redress against the overseas recipient in their jurisdiction; and
  5. in holding access to your personal information, the overseas recipient may be subject to foreign laws which compel their disclosure of your personal information to other parties, such as overseas government authorities.
